Scripture

Matthew 27:38, Acts 6:7

Notes

- Done: To have the pieces of your unbelief so carefully assembled that there are no cracks in your armor so that you no longer need to be open to the work of God in your life.

- "Sometimes you have to love somebody love something before you can love it yourself. It is as if they are showing you the way." Donald Miller

HOW DEEP THE FATHER'S LOVE FOR US
How deep the Father's love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure

How great the pain of searing loss
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory

Behold the man upon a cross
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers

It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished

I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection

Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom

Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom

Discussion Questions

1. Do you feel worthy or unworthy of God's gift of salvation through Christ Jesus? And how does the story of the criminals on the cross affect that belief and what you should do with that belief?

2. Are you open to exposing your true self to God so he can inspect the deep desires and the posture of your heart? When thinking about this, consider the criminal on the cross who matter-of-factly says, "We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve," and then asks Jesus to remember him when He comes into His Kingdom.

3. What is one way you can allow other people to see God's redemptive work in your life as an ongoing testimony of His power, so they too might desire a relationship with Him?
